Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov will not join the team for the start of its upcoming road trip, coach Paul Maurice said on Sunday.

There is potential for Barkov to catch up to the Panthers and join the team during the trip, Maurice said after practice, but he will miss at least the first two games.

The Boston Bruins set the NHL record for most home victories to start a season with their 12th straight, topping the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in overtime Friday with a power-play goal from David Pastrnak.

The Bruins broke the mark of 11 that was set by the 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks and equaled last season by the Florida Panthers.

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk has been suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for poking Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick in the face with his stick on Saturday night.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Tkachuk will forfeit $102,702.70. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Florida Panthers are signing Eric Staal, adding the veteran forward to a roster that also includes his younger brother Marc.

Staal is signing a one-year, $750,000 contract, sources told ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

The Florida Panthers will be without Aaron Ekblad until at least mid-November, and quite possibly longer, after placing the star defenseman on the long-term injured reserve list with a groin injury.

Spencer Knight agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 21-year-old goalie is in the final season of his three-year, entry-level contract and could have become a restricted free agent after this season.

Veteran defenseman Keith Yandle said Tuesday he is retiring after 16 seasons in the NHL.

Yandle became the NHL's all-time Iron Man last season, extending his consecutive-games streak to 989 before the Philadelphia Flyers scratched him late in the year.

The 36-year-old blue liner also played for Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers and Florida Panthers.

Matthew Tkachuk says he's ready for the Battle of Florida after waging the Battle of Alberta for the first six years of his NHL career.

"I hate Edmonton, but I hate Tampa more now," said Tkachuk, who was traded by the Calgary Flames to the Florida Panthers in a blockbuster deal on Friday night.

Tkachuk was introduced by the Panthers at a news conference on Monday, having signed an eight-year, $76 million contract extension. 

Matthew Tkachuk and Jonathan Huberdeau had the best years of their career this past season.

And now they're changing places in an NHL blockbuster.

Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers on Friday night, with Huberdeau part of the haul going to the Calgary Flames for the power forward. Florida also sent defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt and a lottery-protected first-round selection in the 2025 NHL draft.

The Dallas Stars signed forward Mason Marchment on Wednesday after his breakout season with the Florida Panthers, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Marchment, 27, signed a four-year deal with an average annual value of $4.5 million against the salary cap.
