Pavel Datsyuk To Stay In Russia

Pavel Datsyuk has signed for his hometown Russian club in the Kontinental Hockey League, ending speculation of a possible return to the NHL.

The 40-year-old center has signed a one-year deal with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, the successor to the team where he began his pro career in the 1996-97 season.

Red Wings Hire Pat Verbeek As Assistant GM

The Detroit Red Wings have hired Pat Verbeek as assistant general manager to work with Steve Yzerman.

Yzerman was hired recently by Detroit as general manager.

From 2010-18, Yzerman served as Vice President and General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, transitioning to an advisory role prior to the 2018-19 season. 

Yzerman's hiring in Detroit moved Ken Holland upstairs as president of hockey operations.

Red Wings Name Steve Yzerman New GM

Steve Yzerman is getting another chance to return the Red Wings to glory.

The Hockey Hall of Famer did it as one the game's all-time great leaders, helping Detroit end a 42-year championship drought with the first of three Stanley Cup celebrations in 1997 during his playing tenure in Detroit.

Now, he has a shot to do it as the Red Wings' general manager.

Source: Red Wings To Name Steve Yzerman New GM

Steve Yzerman is returning to the Detroit Red Wings, with a source confirming to ESPN that Yzerman will be named the team's general manager.

The Red Wings have called a news conference for 3 p.m. ET Friday that includes Yzerman without specifying the purpose.

A source confirmed to ESPN that current general manager Ken Holland will remain with the organization. According to multiple reports, Holland will get the new title of senior vice president.

The Red Wings host the New York Islanders on Saturday. The defenseman was recalled under emergency conditions.

Lashoff hasn't played for the Red Wings yet this season. He has no goals and 11 assists in 44 games for Grand Rapids.

Detroit's Mike Green To Miss Rest Of Season With Virus

The Detroit Red Wings will be without Mike Green for the remainder of the season because of a lingering virus that has sapped his energy.

Green, 33, missed the beginning of the season because of the virus, which has attacked his liver.

After the latest flare-up, he saw a specialist who recommended multiple weeks of rest.

He is under contract for one more year after this one, with a cap hit of $5.375 million.

Sharks Acquire Gustav Nyquist From Red Wings For Two Picks

The San Jose Sharks have traded two draft picks to the Detroit Red Wings for Gustav Nyquist.

Nyquist, 29, is currently second on the Red Wings in scoring, with 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) in 62 games. Nyquist will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.

"Gustav is a talented, versatile forward who plays with speed and a strong hockey sense," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "His track record of strong play and character speak for themselves, and we're very excited to add him to our dressing room."

Detroit will receive the lower of San Jose's or Florida's 2019 second-round selections, along with San Jose's third-round selection in 2020.
