Red Wings Name Steve Yzerman New GM

Steve Yzerman is getting another chance to return the Red Wings to glory.

The Hockey Hall of Famer did it as one the game's all-time great leaders, helping Detroit end a 42-year championship drought with the first of three Stanley Cup celebrations in 1997 during his playing tenure in Detroit.

Now, he has a shot to do it as the Red Wings' general manager.

Kings Name Todd McLellan Head Coach

The Kings have agreed to terms with Todd McLellan on a multiyear contract to be the team's new coach, it was announced Tuesday.

He replaces Willie Desjardins, who served as the interim coach last season and was not retained after the two-time Stanley Cup-winning franchise slumped to the NHL's second-worst record this season.

McLellan, 51, will receive a five-year contract worth around $5 million annually, the Athletic reported. He also was a candidate for the coaching vacancy in Buffalo.

Flyers Name Alain Vigneault Head Coach

The Philadelphia Flyers have hired Alain Vigneault as head coach.

Vigneault, 57, most recently coached the New York Rangers for five seasons before he was dismissed last spring. He is scheduled to be the coach for Team Canada in May's World Championships in Slovakia.

Vegas Adds Nikita Gusev To Playoff Roster

The Vegas Golden Knights announced it signed KHL leading scorer Nikita Gusev to one-year entry level contract on Sunday. Gusev, a Moscow native, scored a league-high 82 points (17 goals, 65 assists) for SKA St. Petersburg this season, which was eliminated in the conference finals of the Gagarin Cup playoffs last week. Gusev was the KHL's MVP in 2018.

Dale Tallon and Joel Quenneville are together again, and the Florida Panthers are ready for them to recreate their magic.

Quenneville -- who is second on the NHL's all-time victory list -- was hired Monday to coach the Panthers, who started their offseason with a splash. It's also a reunion, as Tallon hired Quenneville to coach Chicago in 2008 and wound up watching him win three Stanley Cups there in a six-year span.
