Pavel Kubina Retires After 13 NHL Seasons

Pavel Kubina, the Czech defenseman who helped the Lightning win the 2004 Stanley Cup, retired from the NHL on Friday.

The 35-year-old Kubina had 110 goals and 276 assists in 13 seasons with Tampa Bay, Toronto, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Jagr Moves Past Howe With 122nd Game Winner

Jaromir Jagr has moved into some special company with a uncanny scoring ability over 20 NHL seasons.

Jagr's 693rd career goal was his 122nd game winner, passing Gordie Howe for most in NHL history, and the Devils beat the Senators on Wednesday night, according to an ESPN.com report.

Ovechkin, Jones, Hutton Named NHLs 'Three Stars'

Capitals right wing Alex Ovechkin, Kings goaltender Martin Jones and Predators goaltender Carter Hutton have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Dec. 15.

 FIRST STAR – ALEX OVECHKIN, CAPITALS

Ovechkin led the NHL with five goals and tied for third with six points as the Capitals earned five out of a possible six points to maintain second place in the Metropolitan Division. He began the week by recording his third career four-goal game (and 13th career hat trick), including the tying marker with 32.4 seconds remaining in regulation, in a 6-5 win over the Lightning Dec. 10.

Ovechkin leads the NHL with 27 goals in 31 games this season and is tied for fifth with 37 points.

SECOND STAR – MARTIN JONES, KINGS

Jones posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average, .972 save percentage and one shutout to help the Kings move into second place in the Pacific Division and third in the League standings. He made 31 saves for his second consecutive shutout in a 6-0 victory over the Canadiens Dec. 10. 

THIRD STAR – CARTER HUTTON, PREDATORS

Hutton compiled a 3-0-0 record with a 1.33 goals-against average and .960 save percentage to lead the Predators to their second three-game winning streak of the season. He allowed one goal in both a 4-1 win over the Rangers Dec. 10 (28 saves) and a 3-1 victory over the Stars Dec. 12 (33 saves).

Jamal Mayers Retires After 15 NHL Seasons

Jamal Mayers officially announced his retirement from the NHL after 15 seasons on Friday, according to an ESPN.com report.

Mayers began his career with the Blues in the 1996-97 season and also played for the Maple Leafs, Flames, Sharks, and Blackhawks. He finished his career with 90 goals, 129 assists and 1,200 penalty minutes in 915 regular-season games.

Mayers finished his career playing with the Stanley Cup-winning Blackhawks last season.

Mayers said winning the Stanley Cup last season made it easier for him to retire.

Weight, Guerin Into U.S. Hockey Hall Of Fame

Doug Weight, the Stanley Cup champion, three-time Olympian and four-time NHL All-Star, was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night at the Motor City Casino, in the city where he grew up.

"It's ironic," the Detroiter said. "Pretty special."

Weight was honored along with former teammate Bill Guerin, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, three-time Olympian and four-time All-Star.
