NHL Clears Apologetic Evgeny Kuznetsov

The NHL cleared Capitals star Evgeny Kuznetsov after a video surfaced Monday of him sitting next to a table on which there are two lines of white powder in what appears to be a hotel room.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement Friday that the league "thoroughly reviewed the situation" and considers the matter closed.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Nikita Zaitsev has asked for a trade for personal reasons, and the team is willing to oblige him.

TSN first reported the trade request, and Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas confirmed it to NHL.com.

"That will be our goal, to try to find a fresh start for him, for his own personal and private reasons," Dubas said, according to NHL.com.

Bettman: NHL To Consider Expanding Video Review

Commissioner Gary Bettman considers the NHL's current video review system "a blessing and a curse." There are times when it's a vital mechanism for getting calls on the ice correct. But in the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs, there have been a dozen instances of controversial plays that couldn't be remedied with replay because they fell outside of their scope.

Before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, Bettman said the NHL will consider expanding video review when the league's competition committee and general managers meet next month.
