Isles Waive Goalie Jaroslav Halak

The New York Islanders waived goalie Jaroslav Halak on Friday.

The move comes one day after Halak was pulled after allowing four goals on 24 shots during a 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

For the season, Halak is 6-8-5 with a 3.23 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

Hawks Sign Artemi Panarin To New Two-Year Deal

The Blackhawks have signed winger Artemi Panarin to a two-year extension.

The Russian goal scorer, 25, would have been a restricted free agent July 1, but he has agreed to a new deal that will pay him an average of $6 million per year starting next season, his agent, Tom Lynn, confirmed to ESPN.

He's currently earning $3.5 million per season.

Pens Extend Coach Mike Sullivan Through 2019-20 Season

The Pittsburgh Penguins and coach Mike Sullivan have agreed on a three-year contract extension through the 2019-20 season, the team announced Monday.

Sullivan, 48, took over the job after Mike Johnston was fired on Dec. 15, 2015. Under Sullivan, the Penguins posted a 33-16-5 record last season and won the 2016 Stanley Cup.

Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard will miss four to six weeks due to a knee sprain, general manager Ken Holland told reporters Friday.

Howard was hurt Tuesday night in a 4-1 loss at Tampa Bay. He left the game in the second period, unable to put weight on his right leg.

David Legwand Retires After 16-Year NHL Career

David Legwand announced his retirement Thursday, ending a 16-year NHL career that began as the Nashville Predators' first draft pick.

The 36-year-old Legwand had 228 goals and 390 assists in 1,136 career regular-season games with Nashville, Detroit, Ottawa and Buffalo. He's Nashville's career leader in goals (210), assists (356), points (566), game-winning goals (41) and games (956). He had five goals and nine assists in 79 games last season for Buffalo.

Jaromir Jagr broke a tie with Mark Messier for No. 2 on the NHL career points list. Afterward, he was upset about the two standings points the Panthers let slip away with a 3-1 loss to the Bruins.

"You want to win the hockey game," Jagr said. "The best thing is to put this behind us, and the whole team can now be concerned about winning. ... I've learned that hockey is a team game. Only team victories count. I wish it had happened in the first period, or it was a goal to give us the lead."

Hawks Place Anisomov On IR; Crawford Returns

The Blackhawks will welcome goalie Corey Crawford back to the lineup on Friday, but they won't have center Artem Anisimov or winger Marian Hossa.

Anisimov, who has 14 goals and 13 assists playing mostly on the line with Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin, was placed on injured reserve Thursday, retroactive to Dec. 18. He suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday night's victory at St. Louis.

Crawford is returning from having an emergency appendectomy in Philadelphia on Dec. 3. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Thursday that Crawford will be between the pipes on Friday.
