Selanne Headed To Fifth Olympics

Veteran forward Teemu Selanne has been selected to play for Finland's hockey team at his fifth Olympics in Vancouver in February. Selanne has twice been the top scorer at the Olympics and was chosen as the best player in Turin. He won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007.

Linesman Seriously Injured In Canada

A 25-year-old hockey linesman was gravely injured when his neck was cut by a skate during a Junior C game on Tuesday. The incident took place in the third period of a game between the New Hamburg Firebirds and the host Woodstock Renegades. The linesman, Kevin Brown, was initially reported to be in stable condition, but Renegades owner Bill McLeod said he was told Brown is "not doing so well now."

Former NHL superstar Jaromir Jagr has been included on the Czech Republic's Olympic squad for February's Vancouver Games. He left the NHL in 2008 to join Avangard Omsk in Russia's Continental Hockey League.

Phoenix's Michalek, Lepisto Going To Olympics

Phoenix Coyotes defensemen Zbynek Michalek (Czech Republic) and Sami Lepisto (Finland) will each represent his country in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Michalek, 27, will be appearing in the Olympics for the first time. He represented the Czech Republic at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship in 2006, 2007 and 2008, winning a silver medal in 2006.

Doughty Will Represent Canada

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has been selected for the roster for his native Canada for the men's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, it was announced Wednesday. Doughty, who turned 20 earlier this month, has never participated in the Olympics before. Internationally he has represented Canada at the 2009 World Championships, with his seven points tied for fourth among defensemen in the tournament and his six assists third most among defensemen in the tournament and tied for eighth overall); at the 2008 World Junior Championships; the 2007 World Junior Under-18 Championships and the 2006 World Junior Under-17 Championships.

Nash Named To Canadian Olympic Team

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash has been named to the Canadian Olympic hockey team and defenseman Jan Hejda has been named to the Czech Republic Olympic hockey team, the club announced Wednesday. Nash and Hejda join Fedor Tyutin (Russia), Fredrik Modin (Sweden), Samuel Pahlsson (Sweden) and Milan Jurcina (Slovakia) as Blue Jackets who will compete at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Coyotes Recall Porter, Hoggan; Place Winnik On IR

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced on Sunday that the Coyotes have recalled forwards Kevin Porter and Jeff Hoggan from their AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. In addition, forward Daniel Winnik has been placed on Injured Reserve. Porter has appeared in two games with the Coyotes this season and currently leads San Antonio in scoring with 10-14-24 and 20 penalty minutes in 28 games. Hoggan has recorded 6-10-16 and 23 PIM in 31 games with San Antonio this season. Last season, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound Hoggan appeared in four games with the Coyotes and registered an assist. Winnik has recorded 2-10-12 and 10 PIM while appearing in each of the Coyotes? first 39 games this season and ranks 2nd on the team with a +10 rating.

Jackets Recall Picard, Place Methot On IR

The Blue Jackets have recalled forward Alexandre Picard from the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? AHL affiliate, and placed defenseman Marc Methot on Injured Reserve, GM Scott Howson announced on Sunday. Methot is expected to miss at least one week. Picard has registered nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points and 72 penalty minutes in 27 games with Syracuse this season. He leads the club in goals and points (tied), while ranking third in penalty minutes. Methot has recorded 1-3-4 and 35 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Blue Jackets this season.
