Sean Couturier Will Not Need Surgery, Remains Week-To-Week

Veteran forward Sean Couturier will not need surgery on an upper-body injury, the Philadelphia Flyers said on Wednesday.

Couturier remains week-to-week with the injury, which was revealed when training camp opened earlier this month. He has not taken part in drills or preseason games.

The Philadelphia Flyers assume that defenseman Ryan Ellis will be out for the 2022-23 season because of a back injury.

"Ryan Ellis is out indefinitely -- no timetable for his return to play," general manager Chuck Fletcher said at training camp on Thursday. "I'll just say that my assumption is that he won't play this season. If he does, it'll be a bonus. That's how we've prepared for this season."

The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Thursday that center Nolan Patrick will miss the 2022-23 season.

Patrick played 25 games for the Knights last season, tallying two goals and five assists. He missed significant time due to an upper body injury early in the season and a concussion suffered in February 2022. His last game was on March 24. Patrick is in the last year of his contract and is a restricted free agent next summer.

Brad Marchand Set To Skate For First Time Since Surgery

Brad Marchand will skate Friday for the first time since the Boston Bruins forward had surgery in May.

Marchand was expected to need six months to recover from a hip arthroscopy and labral repair on each hip and is on track to return in late November.

"It's pretty much like learning how to skate again," Marchand told the Bruins website at the Bruins Foundation Golf Tournament in Plymouth, Massachusetts, on Thursday. "Very light for this next little while and then hopefully progress each week. … The last few days of November is kind of the target date (to return)."

Mark Stone On Track To Open Season With Golden Knights

Mark Stone is on track to open the season with the Vegas Golden Knights after having back surgery in May, general manager Kelly McCrimmon said.

The 30-year-old forward, who had surgery May 19, has been expected to miss part of training camp, which begins Sept. 21. The Golden Knights play their season opener Oct. 11 at the Los Angeles Kings.
