Lombardi Could Play In Opener

It appears as though Matthew Lombardi's concussion issues are clearing up and he could play at the start of the season. Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke says that although it's unclear whether he'll be ready for camp, there's a possibility he'll join Toronto for the start of the regular season.

Bruins' Horton Says He's Symptom-Free

Bruins winger Nathan Horton was at LaLacheur Park Wednesday night to take part in the second annual Milan Lucic Rock and Jock Celebrity softball game. But the good news for Bruins fans is that Horton told the media prior to the game that he is symptom-free from the concussion he suffered in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals in June.

Pens' Adams Recovering From Appendectomy

Penguins forward Craig Adams is expected to be ready for the start of training camp after undergoing laparoscopic appendectomy surgery on Friday. His recovery should take four weeks, according to the Pittsburgh doctor who performed the surgery. Adams signed a two-year extension with the Penguins on June 10.

Bad News For Connor Murphy

Connor Murphy got the bad news earlier today, an MRI on his right knee showed a torn meniscus. He'll fly to Phoenix and have surgery next week, and is expected to miss 3-4 months of action. It's the second straight season Murphy will start on the injured list. A preseason back injury sidelined him until February last season, but the Coyotes saw enough, including a golden goal for the U.S. to win the World Under-18 Championship, to take him with the 20th pick of June's draft.

Pronger Likely To Miss Start Of Camp

Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger is progressing nicely from offseason back surgery, but he may miss the start of training camp, general manager Paul Holmgren has acknowledged. Pronger had disc fragments in his lower back removed on May 12 and underwent surgery to repair a broken hand on March 15. According to Holmgren, Pronger was examined by a back specialist and a hand specialist last week and was given permission to step up his rehab.
