Claude Lemieux signed a contract with the Sharks on Monday after spending the past month with their top minor-league affiliate.
Lemieux, 43, signed with the Worcester Sharks on Nov. 25 after a five-year absence from pro hockey.
San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said Lemieux will stay with the Sharks if he clears waivers Tuesday after signing his new deal.
"This is simply the next step in the evaluation process with Claude," Wilson said.
