The fourth matchup of the RealGM Be A GM series features a stellar sophomore against the reigning NHL MVP. Why Logan Couture Is a Franchise Player The 22-year-old sophomore center has put up numbers in every level of competition, something that bodes well for projecting future success. In his final season in the Ontario Hockey League he had 39 goals and 87 points with a +27 rating in 62 games. In 42 AHL games in 2009-10 he put up a very impressive 53 points and a +16 rating. While he had a 25-game cup of coffee in 2009-10 with the Sharks, he was not given much of an opportunity to show his worth. Last year though, his official rookie season, he was among the freshmen leaders with 32 goals, 56 points and a +18 rating. He was also very solid defensively and in the faceoff circle, leaving the Sharks to entrust him with centering the #2 line behind Joe Thornton. He finished second in rookie of the year voting as well. He is starting off his second full season very well, averaging close to a point per game. Why Corey Perry Is a Franchise Player The simple answer: he is coming off of a season that saw him with the Rocket Richard Trophy as the top goal scorer, and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league MVP. It seems like Perry is a seasoned veteran, but he is only 26-years-old after being drafted in the first round in 2003. He has four straight seasons of 27+ goals, and three straight seasons of 72+ points, including his superstar effort of 50 goals and 98 points last season. Not only that, he plays hard all the time, which is shown by his four straight seasons of 100+ penalty minutes. The two-time All-Star carried his team into the postseason last year, and was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup champs (15 points in 21 games). Additionally, Perry was solid in Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics, where he helped Canada win gold with four goals in seven games. -- Nick is an NHL Feature Writer for RealGM.
