The NHL will announce the remaining 36 players selected to the 2011 All-Star Game in Raleigh, North Carolina on January 11th. Those 36 will join the six players that were voted in as starters by fan voting on January 4th ? Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jonathan Toews, Kris Letang, Duncan Keith and Marc-Andre Fleury.
The rules are very different this year after changes made by the NHL?s V.P of Business and Hockey Development Brendan Shanahan:
Each team will have 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 3 goalies.
Teams will not be divided by Eastern and Western Conference, instead they will be separated in a Fantasy Draft.
The 42 All-Stars will vote for two captains, and four alternates; each team must have two forwards and one defenseman with letters.
The captains and alternates will then choose the players for their teams in a live draft that will be seen on TSN in Canada, and likely the NHL Network in the U.S.
The draft is 18 rounds, and the first pick will be decided by a coin toss.
All goalies must be picked by the 10th round, all defensemen must be picked by the 15th round
12 rookies will be selected during a break after the 15th round; there will be no Young Stars Game this year, instead they will participate in the Skill Competition
The one major change aside from the Fantasy Draft is that not each team is required to have a player in the All-Star Game. Every team will be represented during the weekend, but it is possible that a team?s only representative will be a rookie.
In advance of the actual All-Star participants being announced on Tuesday, I thought I would release my All-Star picks and snubs while following the above rules. I am also assuming that injured stars Pavel Datsyuk and Ryan Getzlaf will not be selected as All-Stars as they would not be able to play.
All stats are as of Saturday, January 8th

Snubs
As with every year there are a lot of snubs, but that will always be the case if each team must be represented during the All-Star weekend. This year in particular, cases could be made that there are no All-Stars from Florida, the Islanders, New Jersey, Ottawa, Toronto, St. Louis, Buffalo and Nashville.
Fan voting also has warranted All-Star berths to a couple of players that may or may not be otherwise worthy; at the very least you could make cases for other players over them.
Out of all positions, goalies have the most notable snubs, as cases can easily be made for Henrik Lundqvist (18-12-3, 2.33, .923, 5 shutouts), Jimmy Howard (22-7-3, 2.68, .910), Jonas Hiller (20-14-3, 2.45, .926, most shots against), Jonathan Quick (19-10-1, 2.15, .921), Cam Ward (17-11-5, 2.55, .925) and Pekka Rinne (12-10-4, 2.16, .926). If teams or fan voting weren?t an issue, you would likely see Fleury, Halak and Vokoun subbed out for any of the three above.
Among defensemen, a truer All-Star Game likely wouldn?t feature Keith, Weber, Kaberle or Karlsson this season. Instead, John-Michael Liles (5-25-30, +11), Brian Rafalski (29 points in 31 games, +11), Ryan Whitney (27 points, +13 for last place Oilers) and Drew Doughty (22 points, +13 in 35 games) would earn a nod.
Up front, 24 selections weren?t enough for players like Brandon Dubinsky (16-30-36), Nicklas Backstrom (11-27-38, +8), Martin Havlat (10-28-38), or Teemu Selanne (37 points in 35 games). Instead, an unwarranted spot is reserved for Tavares, and you could also argue Toews and Malkin. Forward Bryan Bickell (11-12-23, +7) could rightfully be upset that a Devil is taking his place among rookies.
So no, the list above is not perfect, but it never is. If I were picking the All-Stars though, that is who would be packing their bags headed for Raleigh at the end of the month.
