The Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Theo Ruth to a standard three-year entry level contract, GM Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed. Ruth, 21, was Washington?s second pick, 46th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Columbus from Washington in exchange for Sergei Fedorov on February 26, 2008. Ruth tallied five assists and 52 penalty minutes in 22 games during his junior season at the University of Notre Dame (Central Collegiate Hockey Association) in 2009-10 and also registered 31 blocked shots to rank fifth on the Fighting Irish in that category. ?He has had a very good career with the U.S. National Development Program and at Notre Dame, and we are pleased that he has decided to begin his professional career,? Howson said.
