Phoenix Coyotes' General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed goaltender Joel Gistedt to an entry level contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Gistedt, 20, collected a 4-4-3 record with a 3.84 goals against average (GAA) and a .857 save percentage (SV%) in 11 games with the Frolunda HC Indians of the Swedish Elite League last season. The 5-foot-11, 176-pound netminder also played 5 games for the Frolunda HC Indians of the Swedish Junior Elite League last season, posting a 5-0-0 record with a 1.38 GAA and .943 SV%. The Coyotes selected Gistedt in the 2nd round (36th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. During the 2006-07 season, Gistedt registered a 2.58 GAA and .897 SV% in 35 games with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League. A native of Uddevalla, Sweden, Gistedt also represented Team Sweden at the 2007 World Junior Championships and was rated by NHL Central Scouting as the No. 1 European goaltender available in last year?s draft.
