The Los Angeles Kings have recalled goaltender Erik Ersberg (emergency recall) from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (AHL), claimed left wing Matt Ellis off waivers from Detroit, and assigned forward Lauri Tukonen to Manchester, Kings' President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. Ersberg, 25, leads all Monarchs' goalies in games played (30), minutes played (1,540), and wins (10) this season. The 5-11, 182-pound native of Sala, Sweden, has a record of 10-13-2 with one shutout, a goals-against average of 2.92, and a save-percentage of .897 but has not played in an NHL game. Ersberg was named the Goalie of the Year last season while playing with Jonkoping HV71 of the Swedish Elite League, and he signed with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on May 31, 2007. He will wear jersey No. 31 for the Kings. Ellis, 27, has six points (2-4=6) and 12 penalty minutes in 35 games with Detroit this season. The 6-0, 207-pound native of Welland, Ontario, signed with Detroit as an unrestricted free agent on May 10, 2002. He has six points (2-4=6) and 18 penalty minutes in 51 career NHL games ? all with Detroit. He will wear jersey No. 8 for the Kings. Tukonen, 21, has played in one game with the Kings this season and has zero points and zero penalty minutes. He made his season debut with the Kings on Monday (February 18) vs. Phoenix. Tukonen has also played in 38 games with the Monarchs this season, and he has 19 points (6-13=19) and 10 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 198-pound native of Hyvinkaa, Finland, was originally selected by the Kings in the first-round (11th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He has zero points and zero penalty minutes in five career NHL games ? all with the Kings.
