Michael Peca wants to play for the Rangers. But his desire to do so comes with an expiration date. Peca's agent told the Daily News last night that Rangers GM Glen Sather has until today to declare his intentions or the 33-year-old center will sign elsewhere. Asked whether Sather wants to sign Peca, agent Don Meehan replied: "I've been trying to figure that out. I've tried to reach him (yesterday and Sunday) and can't. And I'm working with time constraints now. I've got to find out where he stands. "We're probably going to force the issue by (today). If I can't reach him (today), we'll just go our separate way." After undergoing a physical and meeting with Rangers coaches and brass a week ago in New York, Peca said he understood the team's thoroughness in checking on the right leg he fractured and needed surgery to repair last December. But he also said the negotiations are "a little bit more time-sensitive for me because of my kids and schooling."
