Player-agent Don Meehan confirmed that he has talked with Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey, but said it was too early to speculate on whether defenceman Patrice Brisebois would be returning to the team. There were reports yesterday that the Canadiens had offered the defenceman a one-year deal worth $700,000, but Meehan said only that there were ongoing talks to determine whether any deal would be a "good fit" for both sides. The 36-year-old Montreal native played 14 seasons with the Habs before signing a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche after the lockout. He was part of the Canadiens' last Stanley Cup team in 1993, but became a whipping boy for Montreal fans after he posted a minus-31 rating in 2001-02.
