Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Ryan Caldwell to a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Caldwell, 26, registered 7-23-30 and 94 penalty minutes (PIM) in 61 games with Syracuse of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. In three AHL seasons with Bridgeport and Syracuse, the 6-foot-3, 202-pound Caldwell has collected 12-54-66 and 197 PIM in 195 games. Caldwell played two NHL games with the New York Islanders in 2005-06 and recorded 2 PIM. Prior to his professional career, Caldwell spent four seasons with the University of Denver of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). As a senior in 2003-04, Caldwell helped lead Denver to the National Championship as he paced team defensemen and ranked 2nd overall on the club with 15 goals among 27 points during the season. Caldwell was selected by the Islanders in the 7th round (202nd overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
