Veteran winger Justin Williams, an unrestricted free agent, signed a two-year, $6.5 million deal with the Capitals on Wednesday night.

"Justin is a proven winner and we feel he will be a great addition to our club," GM Brian MacLellan said in a news release. "We felt it was important for our team to add someone of his caliber, as a hockey player and as a veteran leader."

Williams, 33, spent the past 6½ years with the Kings, with whom he won two Cups, adding to the one he won with the Hurricanes in 2006.
