The Rangers are close to signing defenseman Marc Staal to a six-year deal worth north of $5.7M a year, sources told ESPN.com.

The deal will have a full no-trade clause in the first three years and begin right away; it becomes a partial no-trade clause after three years, a source said. There is also a full no-move clause (which only pertains to waivers).

The 28-year-old has one goal and six assists this season.
