Penguins forward Brooks Orpik was released from the hospital and was traveling back to Pittsburgh with the team after leaving Saturday night's game on a stretcher, according to an ESPN.com report.

Orpik was jumped, thrown to the ice and punched twice in the head by the Bruins' Shawn Thornton during a stoppage in play at 11:06 of the first period of the Bruins' win at TD Garden.

Thornton was handed a match penalty and has been told he faces a disciplinary hearing.
