Alain Vigneault has been named head coach of the New York Rangers, signing a five-year deal to replace John Tortorella.

Vigneault has been with the Vancouver Canucks for the past seven seasons.

"I was thinking about the opportunity to coach the New York Rangers, one of the Original Six teams, in this great city, and there wasn't a chance I could pass that up," Vigneault said. "Honor and privilege is what I feel at this moment. I'm coming here to win and there's no doubt in my mind that this organization is committed to winning the Stanley Cup."
