Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired a fifth round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft from the Panthers in exchange for forward Casey Wellman. Wellman, 24, skated in 57 games with the Connecticut Whale and Houston Aeros of the AHL last season, registering 23 goals and 24 assists for 47 points, along with 31 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, penalty minutes, power play goals (10), and shots on goal (155). Wellman also recorded two goals and five assists in 14 games with the Wild. The Rangers acquired Wellman from Minnesota on February 3, 2012, in exchange for Erik Christensen and a seventh round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He tallied nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points, along with 10 penalty minutes in 31 games with Connecticut following his trade. Wellman was originally signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent on March 16, 2010.
