New Orleans To Host 2008 NBA All-Star Game

NBA Commissioner David Stern announced today that New Orleans will host the 2008 NBA All-Star Game.

Stern says that the announcement is a vote of confidence that the city of New Orleans will be able to rebuild its previous tourism infrastructure amid destruction and tragedy.

All-Star Weekend 2008 will run from February 15-17.

The announcement marks the first major sporting event rewarded to the city of New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina.

NBA Receives Award For Global Fight Against HIV/AIDS

The NBA will be honored tonight at the 2006 Business Excellence Gala in London for its efforts in creating HIV/AIDS awareness globally through their Basketball without Borders program.

Speakers at the gala include Sir Elton John and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso.

The award being presented to the NBA will be the GBC Community Award for its Global Advocacy for HIV/AIDS.

Venezuela Will Host 2007 FIBA Americas Championship

Venezuela will be the host country for the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship, a basketball qualifying tournament for the 2008 Olympics, it was announced on Thursday.

The tournament will be held in August 2007, should feature 10 teams from North, Central and South America and award three or four berths to the Olympics.
