NBA Should Make All-Star Weekend Serious

The pressure is on Houston; Denver could not have done a better job.

The All-Star circus will come to town next year, and we're confident Houston can put on the parties and the rest of the periphery hospitality, having triumphed through the Super Bowl and baseball All-Star bashes.

Denver handled the stuff off the court well, too. But we can fix the basketball part.

First, it needs to be understood that there should be basketball in there somewhere. And we understand the NBA is not going to take the microphone from the screaming ringmasters, though if it was all so wonderful, the league would not have to pay someone to scream, turn down the music or sit down the dancers.

RealGM Fans Pick East To Emerge Victorious

In a recent poll taken on RealGM, 57 percent predicted that the East would win while the remaining 43 percent chose the West. With the vote, fans are predicting the East will overcome the recent domination of the West, a team that has won the last 3 events.

This will also mark the second time that Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal have battled against each other.

The NBA’s 54th All Star Game is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.

Adrian Dantley Still Waiting For A Hall Of Fame Induction

This Sunday, the Basketball Hall of Fame will announce finalists for its Class of 2005. Among those expected to be included are: first-year eligible candidates Dominique Wilkins and Joe Dumars, University of North Carolina coach Roy Williams and WNBA coach Van Chancellor. Repeat candidates could include Bernard King (whose Jazz stint was limited to 19 games in the 1979-80 season), ex-coach and current ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale, and college coaches Jim Boeheim, Jim Calhoun and Eddie Sutton. Adrian Dantley may or may not be on that list.

"I've been a finalist," he said. "It's just a matter of getting in."

"I look at the people who are in there — it gets kind of frustrating," said Dantley, who tonight will be part of the Detroit Pistons' three-person entry in the NBA All-Star Weekend's Shooting Stars contest. "Last year, the guys that were in it . . . I don't know what people really look at."

Dantley is a six-time all star who scored 13,625 total points for the Jazz during his career and was eventually traded in the summer of ’86 after Karl Malone’s arrival.
