The Spurs have not put Temple coach John Chaney on the payroll. Nor have they flown in the Lithuanians or any other zone-savvy European team.

After NBA owners voted last April to eliminate the traditional illegal defense, Spurs coaches simply studied the changes. Then they decided no change was needed.

"We've done nothing," Antonio Daniels said. "No zones. No halfcourt zones. Nothing like that. Guys may do certain things individually to use the rules to their advantage, but, overall, we haven't done anything as a team.
