Blue Jackets Recall Mason From Syracuse

Press Release - The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled goaltender Steve Mason from the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? American Hockey League affiliate, and have assigned goaltender Dan LaCosta to the Crunch, Blue Jackets? General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Mason, 20, has gone 2-1-0 with a 1.63 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in three games with Syracuse this season. Playing his first professional season, he ranks third in the AHL in goals-against average and is fifth in save percentage.

Columbus? second pick, 69th overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft, Mason went 32-7-3 with 2.51 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and three shutouts in 42 games with London and Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League in 2007-08. He ranked third in the OHL in wins, fourth in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average and shutouts (tied). He also went 5-0-0 with 1.19 goals-against average, .951 save percentage and one shutout in five games at the 2008 World Junior Championship, leading Canada to the gold medal and earning top goaltender and tournament MVP honors.
