| 7th June, 2008 - 12:10 pm | The Washington Post - The NHL won't announce the winner of the Hart Trophy until Thursday night, but t-shirts featuring Alex Ovechkin as the MVP were on sale for a few hours Friday afternoon, according to The Washington Post.
League officials noticed the mistake and pulled the shirts from NHL.com. Ovechkin was the league's leading scorer this season, and is a finalist for the award along with Calgary's Jarome Iginla and Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin.
NHL spokesman Frank Brown trying to fan the flames regarding the incident said, "In an effort to offer our fans the merchandise they want in a timely manner following an event such as the NHL Awards, our licensees prepare product for all possible outcomes. In this situation, the link for one of the possible products became live early through an error by our e-commerce provider. We regret the error and have since taken steps to amend." [READ] |
