| 5th June, 2008 - 4:08 pm |  RealGM Staff Report - Tampa Bay Lightning center Jeff Halpern underwent successful surgery yesterday to repair a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a partial rupture of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and a small tear to the lateral meniscus in his right knee, it was announced by Lightning Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Benjamin Shaffer in Washington D.C. Halpern sustained the injury during the third period of Team USA?s 5-4 loss against Canada at the IIHF World Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 6. Halpern was serving as captain of Team USA at the tournament.
Rehabilitation and recovery is expected to last 5-6 months. Dr. Shaffer also performed surgery on Halpern?s left knee in 2002 to repair a torn ACL. [READ] |
