RGM Notebook: Red Wings Survive Game 5

Douglas Benton/RealGM - The Detroit Red Wings beat the Nashville Predators 2-1 in overtime to take a three games to two lead heading into Game 6 on Sunday in Nashville. However, the Red Wings weren?t dominant, no matter how the box score reads, and by no means has this series under control.

They out shout Nashville 54-21 and won 38 out of 65 face-offs. Still, most of the shots weren?t great chances by Detroit, and their offensive attack featured too much one on one play. The Red Wings? transition game was pretty good and gave them some opportunities, but they just didn?t take advantage of the passing lanes and odd man rushes. Pavel Datsyuk, who was limited to just one shot, was one of the main culprits of this.

Now, Nashville goaltender Dan Ellis was almost perfect after a shaky start giving up rebounds, but Detroit?s refusal to work in Nashville?s zone kept the Predators in a game they had no business being in. [READ]
