Leafs Trade Veterans To Penguins, Panthers In Separate Deals

RealGM Staff Report - Cliff Fletcher, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the club has traded defenseman Hal Gill to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for their second-round draft pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and their fifth-round pick in 2009. In addition, forward Chad Kilger has been traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for their third-round pick in 2008.

Gill, 32, has two goals and 18 assists and 53 minutes in penalties in 63 games this season, his second with the Maple Leafs. Gill signed with Toronto as an unrestricted free agent July 1, 2006.

Kilger, 31, has appeared in 53 games for the Maple Leafs in 2007-08 and has 10 goals and seven assists with 18 penalty minutes. Kilger joined the Maple Leafs off waivers from Montreal on March 9, 2004. [READ]
