| 1st February, 2008 - 2:38 pm |  RealGM Staff Report - Nashville Predators' President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed forward J.P. Dumont (JAY-pee DOO-mawnt) to a four-year, $16 million contract.
?J.P. Dumont?s commitment, leadership, work ethic, and reputation as a big-game performer has helped him fit perfectly into the Predators' culture since he came to Nashville by choice as an unrestricted free agent prior to the 2006-07 season,? Poile said. ?When he expressed a desire to stay in Nashville, we jumped at the opportunity to keep him as part of our team?s foundation for the next four seasons.?
Dumont, 29 (4/1/78), has posted 20-goal seasons in five of the last six campaigns and currently sits second on the Predators in goals (18), assists (27), and points (45). In his first season with Nashville in 2006-07, he posted career highs in both points (66) and assists (45) in helping the Predators to their best finish in franchise history (51 wins, 110 points). The 6-1, 205-pound right wing also led the Predators in scoring during the 2007 playoffs, posting six points (4g-2a) in five games. For his career, Dumont has notched 27 points (15g-12a) in 36 postseason games.
Dumont is currently riding a franchise record 16-game point streak dating back to Dec. 29, 2007. During that span, he has collected 22 points (8g-14a), leading the team into a playoff spot with a 9-4-3 record. Dumont started the point streak with a club-record six-game goal streak (Dec. 29 ? Jan. 8) and has tallied in 22 of Nashville?s 51 goals (43.1%) during the run. He also finished January as the second leading scorer in the National Hockey League (6g-14a). Linemates Jason Arnott (eight games with a point) and Alexander Radulov (career-best five games with a goal) have also benefitted from their right wing?s production. [READ] |
