'I'll Take The Blame,' Semenov Says After Loss

The Mercury News - Sharks' defenseman Alexei Semenov knew he screwed up.

Sunday night in Anaheim, he had a nightmare of a shift in the final minute of regulation that was instrumental in turning a Sharks' victory into a 4-3 overtime loss. Nevermind that the Sharks had missed other opportunities to increase their lead along the way. When everything was on the line, he came up short.

Monday, at the end of practice at the arena where San Jose and Phoenix meet tonight, he sat on the bench in front of his locker-room cubicle and relived it all.

"I over-think on the play," said Semenov, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound free agent signed last summer. "I'll take the blame."

The Sharks were clinging to a 3-2 lead. With 31 seconds left, Semenov had the puck behind his net and time to think about how to get the puck out of the zone.

Semenov, 26, thought about skating it out. He thought about a hard rim along the boards but didn't go that route because he figured that was what the Ducks expected him to do and were converging on that area. [READ]
