Staal, Dubinsky Survive Rangers Final Cuts

Newsday - Reaching into their pool of prospects, the Rangers yesterday told two homegrown youngsters -- defenseman Marc Staal and center Brandon Dubinsky -- that they would join the club for the regular-season opener Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

Staal, who was drafted 12th overall by the Rangers in 2005, was named the Ontario Hockey League's playoff MVP after he scored 20 points in 21 postseason games.

Dubinsky, a 21-year-old Alaska native, was impressive in training camp last year, but struggled defensively and was one of the final cuts. Management wanted Dubinsky to play a full season in Hartford, where he was 21-22-43 in 71 games and collected 115 penalty minutes. [READ]
