Blue Jackets Send Goertzen To AHL Syracuse, Place Dorsett On IR

RealGM Staff Report - The Columbus Blue Jackets reduced their active training camp roster to 34 players as right wing Steven Goertzen was assigned to the American Hockey League?s Syracuse Crunch and right wing Derek Dorsett was placed on Injured Reserve, General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Goertzen, Columbus? 11th pick, 225th overall in the 2002 Entry Draft, registered five penalty minutes in two preseason games with the Blue Jackets. He racked up 54 penalty minutes in 46 career NHL games with the club the past two seasons and has 18-25-43 and 279 penalty minutes in 165 AHL games with the Crunch since 2005.

Dorsett, the club?s ninth pick, 189th overall in the 2006 Entry Draft, will miss approximately four to six weeks due to a stress fracture of his leg. He appeared in one preseason game with Columbus this season. He spent the 2006-07 campaign with Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League, tallying 19-45-64 and 206 penalty minutes in 61 games.
