Rangers Sign Artem Anisimov

RealGM Staff Report - New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has signed center Artem Anisimov to a professional contract.

Anisimov, 19, skated in 39 games with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv of the Russian Super League this past season, registering two goals and eight assists for 10 points, along with 26 penalty minutes. In the regular season finale, he collected a career-high three assists on March 8. In the post-season, Anisimov recorded five points (three goals and two assists) and four penalty minutes in seven games. He notched the first two-goal game of his Super League career in Game Two of Yaroslavl's first round playoff series on March 12. In addition, Anisimov captured a silver medal with Team Russia at the 2007 World Junior Championships in Sweden. He finished the tournament with two goals and one assist, along with a plus-four rating and 15 shots on goal in six games. His two goals tied for third on Team Russia, while his 15 shots on goal tied for fourth on the team. In Russia's 4-2 semifinal victory over host Sweden on January 3, Anisimov tallied the game-winning goal and posted a plus-three rating.

The 6-4, 190-pound center has collected two goals and nine assists for 11 points, along with 30 penalty minutes in 49 career games with Yaroslavl of the Russian Super League. As a member of Yaroslavl's junior club (Yaroslavl 2), Anisimov notched 35 points (18 goals and 17 assists) in 56 career games from 2004-2006. During the 2005-06 season, he registered 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points in 32 games with Yaroslavl 2 before making his Super League debut.

In addition to his experience at the 2007 Under-20 World Junior Championships, Anisimov also represented his country at the 2006 Under-18 World Junior Championships. In six games at the U-18 World Junior tournament in Sweden, he collected three goals and two assists for five points, along with two penalty minutes. His five points tied for second on the team.

A native of Yaroslavl, Russia, Anisimov was the Rangers' second round choice, 54th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. [READ]
