Arbitration Likely For Henrik

New York Post - Facing salary-cap restrictions and at least the possibility of a Group II offer-sheet raid on Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers yesterday filed for salary arbitration on their franchise goaltender, as forecast by The Post on Wednesday.

This action does not preclude GM Glen Sather from continuing negotiations on a long-term contract with Don Meehan, Lundqvist's agent, until a hearing is held next month, even as it does preclude an offer-sheet raid. But the reality of the Rangers' cap situation suggests that the franchise may have little choice to follow through on one-year arbitration, even though it would leave the door ajar for Lundqvist to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2008-09 season.
