| 5th July, 2007 - 3:03 pm | RealGM Staff Report - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Jan Hejda (pronounced YAHN HAY-dah) to a one-year contract, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Hejda, 29, tallied one goal and eight assists for nine points, 20 penalty minutes and averaged 20:23 of ice time in 39 games with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2006-07 season, which was his first in North America. He also appeared in five games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League, collecting 0-3-3 and 21 penalty minutes.
Buffalo?s fourth pick, 106th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft, Hejda spent three years playing in the Russian Elite League with CSKA Moscow and Mytischy and registered 6-28-34 and 141 penalty minutes in 170 games from 2003-06. The Prague, Czech Republic native played the previous six seasons in the Czech Elite League where he had 21-36-57 and 285 penalty minutes in 243 games. He has also represented the Czech Republic at the World Championships on four occasions (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), tallying 1-1-2 and 16 penalty minutes in 34 games and winning a gold medal in 2005 and silver medal in 2006.
