| 14th May, 2007 - 4:10 pm |  RealGM - Columbus Blue Jackets left wing Rick Nash was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2007 World Hockey Championships in Moscow, Russia after leading Canada to its 24th gold medal in the event. He scored two goals to lead Canada to a 4-2 win over Finland in the final game of the tournament in on Sunday.
Nash, 22, registered six goals and five assists for 11 points with four penalty minutes and a +8 plus/minus rating in nine games during the tournament. It was his second appearance at the World Championships and raised his career totals in the tournament to 15-11-26, 12 penalty minutes and a +15 plus/minus rating. In 2005, he helped Canada win the silver medal as he tallied 9-6-15 with eight penalty minutes and was +7 in nine games and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Nash was one of five Blue Jackets players who competed at the 2007 World Championships. Joining him on Team Canada was left wing Jason Chimera, who notched 1-5-6, eight penalty minutes and was +4 in nine games. Goaltender Fredrik Norrena won a silver medal for Finland, going 2-1-0 with a 1.67 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and two shutouts in three games. [READ] |
