| 3rd May, 2007 - 1:02 pm | News And Observer - Bret Hedican, defenseman of the Hurricanes, is expected to visit a Colorado specialist this month for an examination on his injured hip that could determine whether he will be back next season.
Team trainer Pete Friesen is scheduled to join Hedican when he meets with Dr. Marc Philippon at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo. Philippon performed hip surgeries on Mario Lemieux and Greg Norman, among others.
Hedican, 36, missed a total of 16 games over the first four months of the season and missed the final 16 games because of complications stemming from surgery on his right hip during the summer of 2006 after the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup title.
He has a $2.4 million option to return next season but is considering retirement after fighting hip, back and knee problems over the past three years.
"If he plays, he's a good player for us, but if there's a question about whether he can play in most of the games, we'd probably want to bring someone else in," general manager Jim Rutherford said.
Hedican could not be reached for comment. [READ] |
