The Coyotes are in negotiations to complete a transfer of ownership that would see the franchise's value double in less than a year and a half, a source told ESPN.com.

The Coyotes, wards of the NHL for four years, were sold to a group of investors in June 2013 for $170 million. Now a new investor, hedge fund manager Andrew Barroway, is in negotiations with the group to purchase 51 percent of the team, a source said.
