 The fourteenth in a series of 30 articles, we will go through the history of every NHL franchise alphabetically and select an All-Time Roster for each.
Los Angeles Kings (1967-Present)
While the franchise has been home to some current and future Hall of Famers, Los Angeles has played in merely one Stanley Cup Final (1993) and has never been champion. Not only that, they have only won one Division title (1991). The future looks brighter now than it ever has, though, with burgeoning young stars like Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar and Mike Richards.
First Team
C: Wayne Gretzky (88-96): 918 points (4th most) in only 539 games; 7-time All-Star; 3-time Art Ross & Lady Byng winner, 1989 MVP; five seasons with 90+ assists; Hall of Famer; Team Captain 89-96.
W: Luc Robitaille (86-94, 97-2001, 03-06): Most goals (557), 2nd most points (1,154 in 1,077 games), most power play (210) and game winning goals (73); 8-time All-Star; 1987 Calder Trophy winner; eight straight 40-goal seasons; Hall of Famer; Team Captain 92-93, 2006.
W: Dave Taylor (77-94): 3rd most points (1,069 in 1,111 games), +181, 1,589 PIM; 4-time All-Star; 1991 King Clancy winner; six time 30-goal scorer; Team Captain 85-89.
D: Rob Blake (89-2001, 06-08): Most games (805) and points (494) among defensemen, 1,231 PIM; 4-time All-Star; 1998 Norris Trophy winner (career-high 23 goals); Team Captain 96-2001, 07-08.
D: Mattias Norstrom (96-2007): 2nd most games (780), 142 points, -4; 2-time All-Star averaged over 20:00 minutes of ice time throughout his career; Team Captain 2001-07.
G: Rogie Vachon (71-78): 171-148-66, 2.86 GAA, 32 shutouts; 3-time All-Star was always top-10 in wins and games played.
Second Team
C: Marcel Dionne (75-87): Franchise points (1,307) and assists (757) leader in 921 games; 7-time All-Star; 2-time Lady Byng & Ted Lindsay winner, 1980 Art Ross winner; six seasons with 120+ points; Hall of Famer.
W: Charlie Simmer (77-84): 222-244-466, +83 in only 384 games; 2-time All-Star; back-to-back 56-goal seasons.
W: Mike Murphy (73-83): 457 points, +3 in 673 games; 1980 All-Star; 31 points in 45 playoff games; Team Captain 75-81.
D: Steve Duchesne (86-91, 98-99): 2nd among defensemen in points (315 in 442 games), +49; 2-time All-Star; three straight 62+ point seasons.
D: Larry Murphy (80-83): 207 points in only 242 games, +7; had 76 points in 80 games as a rookie; Hall of Famer.
G: Kelly Hrudey (89-96): 145-135-62, 3.47 GAA, 10 shutouts; 30-30 playoff record; goalie for 1993 Stanley Cup finalist.
Third Team
C: Bernie Nicholls (81-90): 758 points in 602 games, -41; 3-time All-Star; in 1988-89 had an incredible 70-80-150 season.
W: Jim Fox (80-90): 3rd among wingers in points (479 in 578 games); four straight years with at least 28 goals and 68 points.
W: Zigmund Palffy (99-2004): 340 points in 311 games, +85; 2-time All-Star; three straight 32+ goal seasons.
D: Marty McSorley (88-93, 94-96): 234 points in 472 games, +10, 1,846 PIM; 10 points in 24 games during Stanley Cup run.
D: Lubomir Visnovsky (2000-08): 279 points in 499 games, +11; 2007 All-Star; career-best 17-50-67 in 2005-06.
G: Jonathan Quick (2007-Present): 96-66-12, 2.44 GAA, 14 shutouts; back-to-back 35+ win seasons.
Coaches
Andy Murray (99-2006): 215-176-89 (.541 win percentage); most games (480) and wins.
Bob Pulford (72-77): 178-150-68 (.535 win percentage); 1975 Jack Adams winner.
