 In the eighth in a series of 30 articles, we will go through the history of every NHL franchise alphabetically and select an All-Time Roster for each.
Colorado Avalanche (1995 -Present)/Quebec Nordiques (1979-95)
The Quebec Nordiques were once a proud franchise that sported several Hall of Famers, including the previously retired Guy Lafleur. But numerous issues in the mid-90's led the team to relocate to Denver, where the Colorado Avalanche have since won two Stanley Cups (1996, 2001), and have had their own share of current and future Hall of Famers suit up for them.
First Team
C: Joe Sakic (88-2009): Franchise leader across the board: 1,378 GP, 625-1,016-1,641; NHL-record for playoff OT goals (8); 12-time All-Star; 2001 MVP & Lady Byng winner; 1996 Conn Smythe winner; 2-time Stanley Cup winner; Team Captain 92-2009.
W: Michel Goulet (79-90): 2nd most goals (456), 3rd most points (945 in 813 games); 5-time All-Star; 7-time 40-goal scorer, including 4-straight 50-goal seasons; Hall of Famer.
W: Milan Hejduk (98-Present): 4th most goals (357) and points (757, in 910 games); 3-time All-Star; 2003 Maurice Richard winner (50 goals); 2001 Stanley Cup winner; 12 straight 20+ goal seasons.
D: Adam Foote (91-2004, 08-11): 259 points, +129, 1,279 PIM in 967 games; 2-time Stanley Cup winner; was only a minus player in four seasons; Team Captain 2009-11.
D: Rob Blake (2000-06): 208 points, +55 in 322 games; 34 of 62 goals scored on the power play; 4-time All-Star; four straight 45+ point seasons; 2001 Stanley Cup winner.
G: Patrick Roy (95-2003): Leads all categories; 262-140-88, 37 shutouts, 2.27 GAA, .918 SV%; 5-time All-Star; 2001 Conn Smythe winner; 2-time Stanley Cup winner; Hall of Famer.
Second Team
C: Peter Stastny (80-90): 2nd most assists (668) and points (1,048 in 737 games); 6-time All-Star; 1981 Calder winner; seven 100-point seasons; Hall of Famer; Team Captain 85-90.
W: Anton Stastny (80-89): 3rd among wingers in points (636 in 650 games); 52 playoff points in 66 games; three seasons with 80+ points.
W: Valeri Kamensky (91-99): 414 points in 460 games; 1998 All-Star; 1996 Stanley Cup winner (22 points in 22 games); four 20+ goal seasons.
D: Sandis Ozolinsh (95-2000): 253 points, +19 in 333 games; most PPG by a defenseman (39); 3-time All-Star; 1996 Stanley Cup winner.
D: John-Michael Liles (2003-11): Franchise leader in points by a defenseman (275 in 523 games), but -16 for his career; three 40+ point seasons.
G: David Aebischer (2000-06): 89-58-22, 13 shutouts, 2.35 GAA, .915 SV%; 2001 Stanley Cup winner; mostly a backup, but better numbers than the rest.
Third Team
C: Peter Forsberg (94-2004, 08, 11): 755 points, +210 in 591 games; 5-time All-Star; 2003 MVP and Art Ross winner; 1995 Calder winner; 2-time Stanley Cup winner; 159 playoff points in 140 games.
W: Alex Tanguay (99-2006): 400 points, +121 in 450 games; 2004 All-Star; 2001 Stanley Cup winner; three times with 77+ points.
W: Real Cloutier (79-83): 122-162-284 in only 236 games; 566 points in 369 WHA games for Quebec; 1980 All-Star.
D: Ray Bourque (2000-01): 73 points, +34 in 94 games; 19 points, +11 in 34 playoff games; 2001 All-Star; 2001 Stanley Cup winner; Hall of Famer.
D: Randy Moller (82-89): 152 points, +55, 1,002 PIM in 508 games.
G: Daniel Bouchard (80-85): 107-79-36, 3.59 GAA, .878 SV%, 5 shutouts.
Coaches
Marc Crawford (94-98): 165-88-31 regular season, 29-17 playoffs; 1996 Stanley Cup winner; 1995 Jack Adams winner.
Bob Hartley (98-2002): 193-108-58 regular season, 49-31 playoffs; 2001 Stanley Cup winner.
