Tobias Rieder Undergoes Successful Ankle Surgery

Tobias Rieder had successful surgery on his ankle and should be ready for the 2017-18 season, the team announced Saturday.

The team said Rieder will need eight to 12 weeks to recover from the procedure.

Rieder suffered the injury playing for Germany in the world championships earlier this month.

Predators' Aberg Scores Go-Ahead Goal, Then Evaluated For Concussion

Nashville left wing Pontus Aberg had to leave Saturday night's 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks to be evaluated for a concussion minutes after he scored the goal that gave the Predators a 2-1 lead in the third period.

Aberg fell face-first to the ice with 11:24 to play in the third period but stayed in the game. After he scored his first career playoff goal, the NHL concussion spotter asked him to go into the locker room for further tests.

Sharks' Joel Ward Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Sharks forward Joel Ward had surgery on his injured right shoulder and is expected to be completely healed for the start of next season.

Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said Friday that Ward had dealt with a minor shoulder injury during the season and recently opted for surgery instead of rehab.

Predators Lose Ryan Johansen For Rest Of Playoffs

The Predators will be without center Ryan Johansen for the remainder of the playoffs due to a left thigh injury he suffered in Game 4 on Thursday night.

In a statement, the team said Johansen needed emergency surgery Thursday night at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He is expected to recover in two to three months.

Johansen has enjoyed a big postseason, with three goals and a team-high 10 assists in 14 games.

Andrej Sekera Out Six To Nine Months With Torn ACL

Oilers defenseman Andrej Sekera has a torn ACL and will be out six to nine months, GM Peter Chiarelli announced Tuesday.

Sekera suffered the injury against the Ducks in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs and missed Games 6 and 7 as the Oilers lost the series in seven games.

He is scheduled to have surgery Thursday.

Ovechkin Played With Injury During Playoffs

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin played with a lower-body injury during the playoffs that required pain-numbing injections, Russian hockey officials said Thursday.

The Russian Hockey Federation also said Ovechkin, who had five goals and three assists in 13 playoff games, would not be able to play at the world championships in Europe because of the injury.

John Tavares Underwent Hand Surgery

Islanders captain John Tavares had surgery on his right hand in April but should recover in time for the 2017-18 season, the team told Newsday.

The center had been dealing with the hand injury throughout 2016-17. The Islanders told Newsday that his recovery is on schedule.

Tavares, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft, is set to play next season on the final year of his contract. Newsday reports that the Islanders are likely to offer him an eight-year contract that could be worth up to $80 million.
