Sharks Waiting To Name Team Captain

Sep 30, 2015 5:32 PM

The San Jose Sharks will name a captain before their season-opener against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 7, first-year coach Peter DeBoer said.

When that captain will be named is still unknown, although "it won't be the morning of the [Kings] game," DeBoer said. "I'll give [the media] a little more notice."

DeBoer has had a number of players serve as alternate captains during preseason games, among them forwards Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau, and defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Marleau and Thornton previously have been Sharks captains.

"We've kind of spread it out amongst a group of guys that I think are all part of the leadership committee here," DeBoer said. "There wasn't a ton of thought put into it. The guys who have worn the 'A' in preseason are the guys who are, for me, a part of that leadership group that's here.

"I'm very happy with the leadership here. Real impressed with how they come to work every day, the professionalism, how serious they are. There's a lot of good things in that area here."

Prosecutor: Mother Of Kane's Accuser Lied About Bag

Sep 27, 2015 9:09 PM

The prosecutor overseeing the sexual assault investigation of Patrick Kane says the accuser's mother lied about finding an evidence bag in her doorway.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita said during a news conference Friday that he is not sure how the two-day "dog and pony show" focusing on how evidence was handled affects the main case. Sedita said all the evidence, including the rape kit used to examine the accuser, was handled properly and is still in custody of authorities.

"Obviously there has been an effort to create a hoax," Sedita said. "I gotta figure out who was in on that, why they would do that and what it means vis-a-vis all the other evidence."

Questions about the bag were raised publicly Wednesday by the accuser's former attorney, Thomas Eoannou, who abruptly quit the case Thursday night and said he no longer believed the story about how the folded-up paper bag was found. Eoannou said he was still confident in the accuser's allegations against Kane.
