Rangers Agree To Terms With Chris McCarthy

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent forward Chris McCarthy.

McCarthy, 22, registered 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points, along with 12 penalty minutes and a plus-16 rating in 38 games with the University of Vermont Catamounts of the Hockey East Association (HEA) this season.

He has skated in 150 career NCAA contests over five seasons with Vermont, registering 46 goals and 68 assists for 114 points, along with 69 penalty minutes. Last season, McCarthy led the team in goals (13), assists (18), and points (31) while skating in 36 contests.

Isles Owner May Sell Majority Interest

Charles Wang is in talks to sell a majority interest in the Islanders, according to a report from TSN on Friday. 

Wang has been an owner of the franchise since 2000. Since he assumed principal ownership in 2004, the team has made only two postseason appearances and has not won a playoff series.

The Islanders are set to move into the Barclays Center in Brooklyn at the start of the 2015-16 season, when they begin a 25-year lease agreement that was brokered in 2012.

Zetterberg Wants To Play In Playoffs

Henrik Zetterberg wants to play in the NHL playoffs, according to an ESPN.com report.

"That's the goal," Zetterberg said Wednesday, speaking to reporters for the first time since he had back surgery Feb 21.

The Red Wings would be in its 23rd straight postseason if the regular season ended Wednesday, but it is in a logjam for one of two spots in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.

Zetterberg is aiming to return after the playoffs begin April 16.

Pens Lose Malkin For 2-3 Weeks

Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will miss two to three weeks while recovering from a foot injury, according to an ESPN.com report.

Malkin is seventh in the league with 72 points despite missing 11 games for various reasons. 

Brandon Sutter will replace Malkin's spot on the second line.

Ducks Sign Josh Manson To Entry-Level Deal

The Ducks announced today that the club has signed defenseman Josh Manson to a two-year entry-level contract. 

Manson, 22, played three seasons for Northeastern University (Hockey East) from 2011-14, recording 6-15=21 points with 158 penalty minutes (PIM) in 99 career games. Selected in the sixth round (160th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Manson was recently named a 2013-14 Hockey East Second Team All-Star and the Best Defensive Defenseman.
 
A native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Manson scored 71 points with 155 PIM in 111 career games with Salmon Arm of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) before attending Northeastern.

Leafs Sign Eric Knodel To Entry Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday the club has signed defenceman Eric Knodel to a one-year entry level contract that will commence at the start of the 2014-15 season. Knodel has also signed a professional tryout agreement for the remainder of the 2013-14 season with the Marlies of the AHL.

Knodel, 23, registered 28 points (7 goals, 21 assists) with 28 penalty minutes and a +16 rating in 41 games in the NCAA (Hockey East) as captain of the New Hampshire Wildcats this season. 

A native of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Knodel was selected by Toronto in the fifth round, 128th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
