Scott Gomez Joining Panthers

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Scott Gomez is joining the Panthers, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Panthers said Wednesday that they agreed to terms with the veteran center on a one-year deal. Gomez leads all active U.S.-born NHL players in assists with 530 and points with 701.

NHL Wants Expansion Team In Seattle By 2014

The NHL is trying to have an expansion team in Seattle by the start of the 14-15 season, according to a report from Mitch Levy of KJR.

Seattle was identified as an alternative option if the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes fell through.

"If approved, the new expansion Seattle NHL club would cost approximately $275M," wrote Levy. "It would begin playing here in the 2014-2015 season."

Rangers, Mats Zuccarello Agree On New Deal

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Mats Zuccarello on a new deal.

Zuccarello, 25, registered three goals and five assists in 15 games last season after signing with the Rangers on March 28.

He has skated in 67 career regular season contests over three seasons with the Rangers, registering 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points, along with 18 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating. He originally signed with the team as an undrafted free agent on May 26, 2010.

Leafs Sign Mark Fraser To One-Year Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday the hockey club has agreed to terms with defenceman Mark Fraser on a one-year contract.

Fraser, 26, played 45 games for the Maple Leafs in 2012-13, collecting eight assists and 85 penalty minutes.  The Ottawa native saw action in four playoff games for the Leafs, registering one assist and seven penalty minutes.  The Leafs originally acquired Fraser from the Anaheim Ducks on February 27, 2012 in exchange for Dale Mitchell.

Fraser has played 143 career NHL games with Toronto and New Jersey, posting three goals, 13 assists, and 171 minutes in penalties. He was originally New Jersey’s third choice, selected 84th overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Jets, Bogosian Agree To Long-Term Deal

Defenseman Zach Bogosian and the Jets are gearing up for a long-term relationship.

Bogosian agreed to terms with the Jets on a new seven-year deal worth $36M on Monday, the team announced. Bogosian, 23, will carry an annual salary-cap charge of $5.143M.

Kings Agree To Deals With Andrew Bodnarchuk, Colin Miller

The Kings have agreed to terms on a new two-year contract for defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk and a three-year entry level contract for defenseman Colin Miller, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced today.
 
Bodnarchuk, 25, appeared in 69 regular season games with the Manchester Monarchs – the Kings AHL affiliate – last season, recording five goals (tied a career high), 20 points, 77 penalty minutes and a plus-17 rating.  He was originally selected by Boston in the fifth-round (128th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.  
 
Miller, 20, appeared in 54 regular season games with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL last season, recording 20 goals (new career high), 55 points, 78 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating.  The Kings drafted Miller in the fifth-round (151st overall) in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Predators Sign Bryan Rodney To One-Year Deal

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that the club has signed defenseman Bryan Rodney to a one-year, two-way contract worth $550,000 at the NHL level and $120,000 at the AHL level.

Rodney, 29, spent the 2012-13 season with the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs, notching 15 points in 44 games. In 2010-11, he served as captain of the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), being named to his second consecutive AHL All-Star Classic, and finishing among the league’s Top 10 defensemen in assists and points.
