Leafs Recall Scrivens; Gustavsson Day-To-Day

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the club has recalled goaltender Ben Scrivens on an emergency basis from the Marlies of the AHL. The Leafs also announced that goaltender Jonas Gustavsson is day-to-day with a knee injury and will not be in tonight's lineup. Scrivens has played eight games with the Maple Leafs this season, posting a 2-4-1 record with a 2.96 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.

Leafs Sign Sam Carrick To Entry Deal

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the club has signed forward Sam Carrick to a three-year entry level contract. Carrick, 20, played in all 68 games this season for the OHL Brampton Battalion and led the team in goals (37), assists (30), points (67), power-play goals (11) and penalty minutes (104). The native of Stouffville, Ontario was originally the Maple Leafs fifth choice, selected 144th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Finalists For Hobey Baker Award Announced

Maine's Spencer Abbott, Jack Connolly of Minnesota-Duluth and Colgate's Austin Smith are the finalists for this year's Hobey Baker award. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation identified the three seniors Thursday from a list of 10 candidates for the award honoring college hockey's best player. Abbott leads the nation in scoring and assists, with 21 goals and 41 assists. He has signed with the Maple Leafs.

Ducks Recall Mat Clark From AHL Syracuse

The Ducks announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Mat Clark from the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the AHL. Clark has yet to appear in an NHL game. He played 56 games for Syracuse this season, scoring 1-11=12 points with 66 penalty minutes. The defenseman made his professional debut with Syracuse in 2010-11, collecting 2-14=16 points with 128 PIM in 80 games. Clark led the team in PIM and was one of two Crunch players to appear in all 80 games last season.

Blue Jackets Add Cody Goloubef

The Blue Jackets have added defenseman Cody Goloubef to the roster on emergency recall from the Springfield Falcons, the club's AHL affiliate, club Executive Vice President and GM Scott Howson announced today. Goloubef, 22, is in his second professional season and has registered 11 assists and 39 penalty minutes in 45 games with Springfield this season.

Coyotes Send Pouliot To AHL Portland

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have reassigned forward Marc-Antoine Pouliot to the Portland Pirates, the Coyotes AHL affiliate. Pouliot has collected four assists in 13 games with the Coyotes. He has appeared in 41 games with the Pirates this season, recording 7-20-27 and 57 penalty minutes.

Toews Could Return Next Week

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Jonathan Toews skated again Saturday and he might be able to return to action in the next week. Toews skated at home in Chicago on Saturday, as he did not make the team's trip for the game with the Predators. "We're hopeful that maybe we can get him in before the end of the season," Quenneville said.

Based on the Capitals morning skate, all indications are that Nicklas Backstrom will play Saturday against the Canadiens. Backstrom has not played since Jan. 3 when he took an elbow to the head from then-Flame Rene Bourque, but the center was medically cleared this week to return to the lineup after passing a baseline neuropsychological test.

A swollen nose couldn't stop Sidney Crosby from enjoying a four-point Friday night. Crosby provided a potent response in showing that he's in fact back by scoring a goal and adding three assists in the Penguins' 5-3 win over the Sabres. Crosby became the NHL's seventh youngest player to reach the 600-point plateau, and he did it in the seventh-fewest games. Crosby now has 220 goals and 381 assists in 430 career games.
