Leafs' Kaberle Out With Hand Injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday that defenceman Tomas Kaberle will be out of the lineup for approximately four weeks with a hand injury. Defenceman Anton Stralman has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). Stralman has a goal and two assists in 15 AHL games this season to go along with 18 penalty minutes and a +2 rating. With the Maple Leafs, he collected a goal and six assists in 25 games with 10 minutes in penalties and an Even rating.

Coyotes Recall C Joel Perrault After Clearing Waivers

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that center Joel Perrault has cleared re-entry waivers and has been recalled by the Coyotes from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Perrault, 25, has recorded 8-21-29 and 20 penalty minutes (PIM) in 20 games for San Antonio this season. Last year, he finished with 7-10-17 and 48 PIM in 49 games for the Coyotes, setting career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, penalty minutes, power play goals (3) and game-winning goals (2). Prior to last season?s stint with the Coyotes, Perrault recorded 14-13-27 and 36 PIM in 28 games with San Antonio. He was named to the 2008 AHL All-Star Game but was unable to play due to his recall. The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Perrault registered 1-2-3 and 14 PIM in 15 games for the Coyotes in 2006-07 while also appearing in 11 games for the St. Louis Blues. In addition, Perrault collected 10-6-16 and 15 PIM in 23 games with San Antonio and Peoria (AHL). Perrault, who has recorded 9-13-22 and 64 PIM in 80 career NHL games with Phoenix and St. Louis, was originally drafted by Anaheim in the 5th round (137th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft.

Lightning G Kolzig Scheduled For Surgery

Lightning backup goalie Olaf Kolzig was scheduled to have what was expected to be season-ending surgery Saturday on his left forearm, according to an Associated Press report. Kolzig has a distal biceps tendon rupture, which normally has a three-to-four month recovery period.

Coyotes Recall C Alexander Nikulin From San Antonio

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled center Alexander Nikulin from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Nikulin, 23, has recorded 5-9-14 and 12 penalty minutes (PIM) in 37 games with San Antonio this season since being acquired from Ottawa in exchange for defenseman Drew Fata on Nov. 3, 2008. Prior to the trade, Nikulin scored two goals in five games with the Binghamton Senators of the AHL. Last season, the native of Moscow, Russia recorded 14-36-50 and 34 PIM in 71 games for Binghamton. He also appeared in two NHL games with Ottawa. Prior to his AHL career, Nikulin spent three seasons in the Russian Super League, collecting 18-26-44 and 30 PIM in 100 games. He also represented Russia at the 2005 World Junior Championships and won a silver medal. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound Nikulin was originally drafted by Ottawa in the fourth round (122nd overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft.

Forsberg Won't Play In NHL This Season

Peter Forsberg has ruled out a return to the NHL this season, and he may not play at all this year. Forsberg told reporters in Sweden that if he's all to play at all it'll be for his hometown club Modo in the Swedish league. "There won't be any NHL this season, that's totally clear," Forsberg said. "If I can play it will be in the [Swedish] Elite Series and Modo."

Fight Breaks Out At Canucks' Practice

The tension and frustration surrounding the Canucks came to a head during practice on Thursday as a fight broke out between players. The altercation reportedly involved defenseman Willie Mitchell and winger Mason Raymond. Mitchell ran at Raymond during a drill and when Raymond came back at Mitchell in the corner, Mitchell punched Raymond in the head and cross-checked him on the shoulder. The fracas drew several players and coaches, and tough defenseman Shane O'Brien skated to Raymond's defense and challenged Mitchell to fight before tempers calmed.

'Avs Activate F Cody McCormick; Place F David Jones On IR

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has activated forward Cody McCormick off the Injured Reserve list. He is expected to be in the lineup for tonight?s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. McCormick, 25, has missed the past 15 games due to a foot injury. He was placed on IR, Dec. 30 (retroactive to Dec. 21). The London, Ontario native has recorded seven points (1g/6a) and a +2 plus/minus rating in 25 games for the Avalanche this season. In a related move, the Avalanche also announced today that it has placed forward David Jones on Injured Reserve (retroactive to Jan. 27). Jones suffered a shoulder injury in Tuesday night?s loss to the San Jose Sharks.

New York Rangers' President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Erik Reitz from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Dan Fritsche. ??????????? Reitz, 26, has appeared in 31 games with Minnesota this season, registering one goal and one assist for two points, along with 41 penalty minutes.? He was tied for fourth among Minnesota defensemen in goals (one), and tied for third on the club overall in penalty minutes (41).? Reitz also ranked second on the Wild with 58 hits.?
