Kings Acquire Defenseman O'Donnell From Ducks

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenseman Sean O?Donnell from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional draft selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. O?Donnell, 36, is set to enter his 14th NHL season. He played for the Kings from 1994-2000, and in 932 career NHL regular season games with the Kings, Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins, New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild, the 6-3, 234-pound native of Ottawa has 177 points (27-150=177) and 1,558 penalty minutes. He has also played in 87 career NHL playoff games, and has 16 points (6-10=16) and 120 penalty minutes in post-season action. O?Donnell has played the last two-and-one-half seasons with the Ducks, including the 2006-07 campaign when they won the Stanley Cup. He made his NHL debut with the Kings during the 1994-95 season and he played six seasons with the Kings. He played in 381 career games with the Kings, totaling 71 points (12-59=71) and 799 penalty minutes, and his 381 games played rank 10th on the Kings? all-time list among defensemen and his 799 penalty minutes rank fifth among defensemen. He also played in eight playoff games with the Kings and had two points (both goals).

Jackets Assign Plekhanov, LaCosta To AHL, Release Dahm

The Columbus Blue Jackets made their fourth roster moves of training camp today, assigning two players to the Syracuse Crunch, the club?s American Hockey League affiliate, and releasing one other from his tryout contract, General Manager Scott Howson announced. The current training camp roster consists of 37 players. Two players were assigned to Syracuse: defenseman Andrey Plekhanov and goaltender Dan LaCosta. In addition, the club released goaltender Sebastian Dahm from his tryout contract.

Blues defenseman Jeff Woywitka will miss four to six weeks after cracking a bone in his right foot. Woywitka suffered the injury while blocking a shot in Friday's preseason victory over Atlanta at Scottrade Center.

Gonchar Likely Out Six Months

The Penguins will likely be without defenseman Sergei Gonchar for four-to-six months after he has surgery on his dislocated left shoulder this week. Pittsburgh will also be without defenseman Ryan Whitney until December because of a foot injury. Gonchar is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro. He had 12 goals and 53 assists in 78 games last season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday that seven players have been assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Forwards Bates Battaglia, Andre Deveaux, Alex Foster, Kris Newbury, Ben Ondrus, and defencemen Josef Boumedienne (YOH-sef BOH-mid-ean) and Jaime Sifers have all been assigned to the Maple Leafs? primary affiliate. In addition, the Maple Leafs have recalled forward Kyle Rogers from the Marlies and returned centreman Chris DiDomenico (DEE-DOH-menacoh) to the QMJHL?s Saint John Sea Dogs.

Preds Acquire Tarnasky From Tampa Bay

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired forward Nick Tarnasky from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The pick sent to the Lightning is Nashville?s sixth-round choice, unless Tarnasky plays more than 55 NHL games in 2008-09, in which case it turns into a fifth-round selection. Tarnasky, 23 (11/24/84), has played 169 National Hockey League games with the Lightning since 2005-06, amassing 20 points (11g-9a) and 162 penalty minutes. He attained career highs in games played (80), goals (6) and points (10) in 2007-08, in addition to tying a career best for assists (4). A native of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, the 6-2, 224-pound center also played six playoff games for Tampa Bay in 2007. He was originally Tampa?s eighth selection (ninth round, 287th overall) in the 2003 Entry Draft held in Nashville. Nashville now has 12 picks in next summer?s 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal, including a first rounder, two second rounders, two third rounders, three fourth rounders, two fifth rounders and two seventh rounders.
